I’ve been thinking about old friends lately… it seems I always find myself needing an outlet when that happens. I need to talk to someone, but many times there is nobody here but the cats.

I was listening to Our Lady Peace in the car the other day, Jackie had it in my CD player, and I found myself thinking back to 5 years ago. I was in college, and we had a tight group of friends who all hung out from good old Brantford. I was thinking of one person in particular, due to her uncanny love of OLP: Natalie. It’s strange how music brings back such thoughts. All the crap we used to pull. Racing down Fairview both sides of the road, drinking and smoking all night, general mischief around town, even walking around in the middle of the night. It’s not fair to just single out Natalie though, there was Drew and Peter and Matthew as well. We were always together…

So much has changed. Drew is married. Peter lives in Toronto and has a steady girlfriend (wow :P ), Matthew works in TV/Film in Toronto, Natalie is in China teaching ESL last I heard, and me… I’ve come back home to Brantford, and Jackie and I are engaged (I will tell the story another day) to be married in August. Crazy, but that’s life.

I also have this obsession with Romeo and Juliet lately, and fate just keeps on feeding it, or so it seems. Jackie and I were talking about wedding music and on the sampler CD we heard “Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet (1968)”. Wow, I love that song, one of my favourites… and from there a chain of events unfolds. Jackie pulled out “Moulin Rouge!” to watch, and while reading the notes I discovered it was by the same director as “Romeo + Juliet (1996)” (this is by far my favourite interpretation of this work). Innnnnteresting. And then last night, the movie was on YTV. Crazy. The song from Des’ree (or however it’s spelled) has a nice interpretation of the Love Theme as well.

So that’s it… Oh, and the young Claire Danes totally reminds me of Naomi. So now I’m thinking back on our relationship as well. Damn nostalgia! :)
