This script ( can be run from the linux command line by itself, or through php in linux or windows ) can be used to make a copy of an image gallery, but in a smaller size. It will also carry over any meta data stored within the photos. For example, my personal picture gallery is 6.3 GB, and this script brought it down to 250MB while saving all the EXIF data.
