I had a customer asking me about how to pull from an RSS feed that he uses for sending out automated email, and post said email on his blog. The email/rss feed is using a third party system. In order to get the post on the blog, he has to copy and paste everything from the email and then put it into WordPress. Ok, it doesn’t sound that bad… but how many times do you think a mistake might get made, or something may go wrong?? As well as how tedious the whole process could end up getting?
To start off the whole project I started looking for a plugin which would do the trick. The endpoint is WordPress, so there has got to be a plugin for it, right? Let me tell you it was fairly difficult to find one that 1) worked well and 2) was in a decent price range if the customer wanted to use it in more than one page (or customize later).
In the end, I picked up the SmartRSS plugin, and did some modifications of my own. Mostly cleanup, but there are some additions there as well. For example, the plugin now supports filter headers/footers off RSS posts if you like.
